One of the many joys of blogging is discovering that your post has been mentioned on a popular blog.

This happened to me recently, with a post I wrote for That’s Noice – the cupcake-on-cupcake topper. It was featured over on the Craftzine blog and I was super duper stoked.

See? Squee!!

My ego was inflated by the stats spike and the 240 Facebook likes. The That’s Noice blog got a stats spike because Craftzine correctly credited my beautiful photo of a cupcake (that I made from scratch myself).

Then today, by a bit of a fluke, Leigh found that the exact same image has been yanked by the folks at the I Can Has Cheezburger network – for their stuff section.

Now, to get on the Cheezburger network is kinda huge. They get massive amounts of traffic and manage an insanely successful community network.

So when Leigh first sent me the link this afternoon I was initially high-fiving myself (which got me some… interesting looks at work), but then I got  a bit shitty. Cause they didn’t bother to credit the image back to my original post on That’s Noice. Sure, they linked back to the Craftzine blog – but they put their farking “Featured on musthavecute.com” watermark on the image.

Which is okay, cause, you know, they’re the Cheezburger network. And they’re allowed to screw us over and make our hard work look like its theirs.

It’s not fair. Or right. And they think they can get away with it because they’re so massively popular.  I’ve submitted a complaint asking for fair credit for a photo that I took on my own dining table after spending hours baking cupcakes and creating my own cupcake-on-cupcake creation.

I’ll let you know what happens.

In the meantime, I’m going to watermark my photos from now on!

  3. That sucks! I hate it when the big guys try to steal the little guys ideas. Just cause their more popular doesn’t mean they can get away with it. I will be interested to hear if they credit your photo now that you have complained. Keep us updated!

  4. Noooooo! They can’t steal your stuff!!!!!! It’s strange because I steal images stolen all the time. I’m guilt of it myself. But when a massive site with lots of money steals it? Well all of a sudden I get all moral and think it’s wrong.

    1. (I’ve done it too! I must have double-standards, cause I wouldn’t object as much if it was a blogger?)

  5. OMG! How rude is that!!
I must say I am totally in love with that pic and your cupcake creation (I think I might have mentioned that to you before), so I’m not surprised so many others are too.
But give some credit where credit is due… for pete’s sake!
