A disclaimer before I get my ranty pants on: I love watching The Project. They are one of the only shows in recent history that has tried (and persevered with) a new way of delivering the news. It’s like the love child of The Daily Show, Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell and The 7:30 Report.
This morning I saw a promo to win tickets to see a taping of The Project in Sydney.
Fark yeah, Sydney!
I choofed over to enter and found this:
“simply tell us in 25 words or less ‘if you could be any other woman, who would you be?'”
Isn’t it okay for me to be me? Cause I think being me is awesome. I AM AWESOME. I’m intelligent, funny, loud, adorable, honest, hard working; I’ve fought to be where I am today and I am more than just a bit crazy.
I AM RAH!
Please don’t imply that I would want to be anyone else; Princess Mary, Kylie Minogue, Cate Blanchet, Carrie Bickmore. Because even though I think they are all brilliant women in their own right — why would I want to be them, when I could be me?
The Project has done so many great pieces on women who have fought through adversity; please don’t insult the women you’ve featured and the women who watch by suggesting we aren’t allowed to be proud of who we are.
I wasn’t going to enter the comp because UGH, but I decided to enter anyway. Here’s my 25 word entry
Don’t want to be another woman! I’m the result of my struggles and successes; why would I disrespect myself by trading it in for another?
And to whoever is reading this (male, female, kitteh or otherwise), please don’t ever wish to be someone else. Be proud of your achievements and acknowledge the challenges that have shaped you. Never apologise for being YOU. Because you’re amazing, too!
